Summer Sale Bargain

We definitely had some proper summer days last week, which meant, I could even ditch the sheer tights. The Herve Leger style bandage skirt was a complete bargain that I snapped up at the Harvey Nick's summer sale. It really is amazing how it pulls you in in all the right places!

1. It's been a while since I tied a knot in my top! Brings back memories of the 80s. Ok, 90s in Germany...
2. Mermaid shoes.
3. The skirt is a Harvey Nick's sale bargain.
4. New Stella & Dot necklace!

Nothing quite like a new pair of Converse "Chucks" - let's see how long they'll stay this clean. Also: What's with the pointy bum though?! Looks like a shaved a bit off my side - but I don't do anything with my pictures. Must have a pointy bum then...

Another warm day (was that out summer?), another t-shirt/skirt combo. And that new necklace again. :)
Think the skirt will have to go though, it just doesn't look right anymore... T-shirt: Topshop

How to Spot a Fake

So, over the past couple of years I have told you how to minimise the risk of buying a fake Mulberry and where to go to have it authenticated. What I haven't shown you is some of the detail that can give away a fake bag straight away. I obviously don't have an endless supply of fakes but I do have this Mulberry Oversized Alexa, so have a look at my video and pics and take note of the signs that give away a bag as fake! (By the way, it's not this one - different bag!)

And as promised - some pictures to accompany the video
The fake is the 'watermelon' colour, the black is my genuine one.

The most obvious first: the Imprint on the oval and the fob with the tree.
Genuine Mulberry Alexa Imprint and Fob

See how the genuine Mulberry's font is a sans serif, i.e. without little lines at the end of each letter? All straight lines. It is also neatly printed and not smudged (if a bit worn on my battered Lexie).

The stitching is neat and even - though I have seen genuine bags with messier stitching!

The metal fob, which is hanging off the oval is neatly imprinted. Now, I can never remember how many leaves are in which position but the genuine tree has sharply printed leaves.

Fake Alexa Imprint and Fob

The fake bag's Mulberry imprint font is more 'frilly' looking, the letters emulate more of a serif font, i.e. little lines at the ends of the letters. It is also badly printed and not very straight.

The stitching is fairly even but has a weird kink on the left hand side.

The leaves of the tree on the metal fob are rounder and not as sharp.

Back of the fob and serial number

Genuine Mulberry Alexa serial number

The font on the back of the fob is likewise a sans serif, straight numbers, neatly lasered (or etched?) on.

Fake Alexa serial number

The font of the numbers on the fake bag is much more frilly. Whilst some vintage bags have numbers that are actually imprinted into fonts rather than etched or lasered, I have only ever seen straight, non serif fonts.

Now, the made in label isn't as obvious.

Genuine Alexa made in label
Above the genuine...

...the fake below.

Fake Alexa made in label

I don't have a 'Made in England' label from an Alexa on file but this is from another genuine bag and if you compare the 'g' in England, you can see how the genuine one looks more old fashioned - funnily enough a bit more frilly than the fake font. They just can't get it right, can they. ;)

Genuine Mulberry Made in England label

 The genuine magnetic closure...

Genuine Alexa magnetic closure

is raised and has a distinct ridge.

Fake Mulberry Alexa magnetic closure
The fake bag's magnetic closure is fairly flat and has no ridge.

Closure straps

Genuine Alexa strap ends
The genuine bag has straight screws on the back of the metal tabs at the end of the straps. The tree imprint is even and neat and the metal totally flat around it.

Fake Mulberry Alexa strap ends
The screws on the fake bag have Phillips heads (i.e. like a cross). The tree imprint looks fairly neat but the metal is depressed around the tree as well.

And Something else I noticed:

See how there is only stitching to what you see above and below the tree rivet (this is to the left and right of the top handle).

The fake bag has stitching top and bottom and left and right. This isn't present on the genuine bag at all.

There are actually another few differences but these are the most obvious ones. Hopefully you will find them useful, but do bear in mind that every model can have its own markers. The new generation of Mulberry (under Coca's design) has changed significantly and many of said characteristics have disappeared altogether. Nothing beats spending £5 and getting it authenticated by professionals! And even somebody who has handled lots of bags (ahm, me), isn't safe: I would have sworn this was the real deal!

Slipping in and out of Summer

Summer doesn't quite seem to know whether it's here or not, so I feel like I'm still in transitional outfits...

Boden retro print skirt and golden knit jumper
Retro print and golden flecks. And a smile?! That's me laughing because I heard little M shout at Siri downstairs: "Habbikids tibi" = hobbykids tv. Took him a few attempts but it did work in the end!

love that pattern but I think it's definitely one to go with black and uni items only. Can't see it working with stripes or florals... Can you think of anything else? Top & skirt: Warehouse Trainers: Kurt Geiger

Is that an Autumn Outfit?!

Looking back at last week, you could be forgiven for thinking one of those outfits slipped in there by accident: that Zara chequered skirt with black tights looks like something I'd be wearing in October, whilst the other three outfit can pass for summer. Nope. It really was cold enough for opaques. Well, at least for this continental softie...

I love the zesty print of this skirt - very Mary Katrantzou!
It was so warm yesterday - well, outside the office, at least! They predicted rain ☔️ though, so I didn't go full on summer footwear. In the end it stayed dry after all... This skirt always reminds me of Maria Katrantzou designs (am pretty sure that's intentional) and it always cheers me up!
T-shirt & necklace: Warehouse
Skirt: Miss Selfridge
Trainers: Converse

Nothing says spring or summer quite like a floral print!
What's with the grumpy face?! Seriously: this one was the best out of a very grumpy bunch! I like mixing patterns but don't have a pairing for each printed item I own. Usually end up just picking out a colour in the pattern and adding a top/bottom of that colour. Or I just clash it all and pretend I don't care. ;)
T-shirt: & Other Stories
Skirt: Boden
Trainers: Converse
Necklace: Topshop I think...

Zara checkered skirt
Right, so it's warm(ish) when I have to run for the train in the evening, hence t-shirt. But it isn't in the morning. And the office air on is blowing. And it's raining (on and off) - hence the boots. *sigh* Well, at least it's a new outfit combo!

Skirt, boots & necklace: ZARA
Tights: should be packed away in a drawer somewhere in JULY!

Yes, you might have seen this one before. But I've thrown in a bonus bag this time! ;) Sweatshirt & skirt: ZARA

Bye Bye June

Hello summer?
My blog seems to be turning into some running commentary on the weather but I guess that will tell you two things about me:

1. Clothes have to be functional: I have to feel comfortable, not too hot or too cold.
My footwear has to work with the weather, i.e. no silly little shoes in the rain.

2. Despite the above, I like to have a bit of fun with my outfits.

It's just sometimes 1. makes 2. quite hard. And sometimes I feel like I'm flicking back and forth between warm and cold day outfits.

Zara embroidered blouse, Warehouse midi skirt
A bit of foliage for a change! (You know I do florals all the time, right?) Absolutely love the colour of this skirt, though the length is still tricky for me to negotiate. The top is a cropped blouse and just about long enough on the front to kind of tuck it in.
Layering due to the rather autumnal temperatures.
Top: Zara
Skirt: Warehouse
Trainers: Kurt Geiger

Zara denim dress
This dress is quickly turning into a favourite for those days that are too cold for a "proper" summer outfit...
Dress: Zara
Boots: Marks and Spencer
Necklace: Accessorize - I think...

Boden floral dress
It's almost July and I'm back in opaques. Sigh. But these florals always cheer me up! Dress: Boden
Boots: Zara

Floral top and stripy skirt
This outfit does so *not* look summery - but I did throw some token florals in! The top is actually cropped but a tad too long to leave it untucked. I think I'll have it shorted by a couple of cms, so it's naturally going to sit where it is in this outfit...
Top: Warehouse
Skirt: Reiss
Boots: Zara

Sweet Treat

So I went to Cheshire Oaks a while ago and spent quite a bit of time at the Mulberry Outlet store. Of course. I picked up a few items for some other lucky ladies but also treated myself with a bag I had been lusting over for quite some time!

Fancy taking a little peek?

One Week of Summer

We had some proper summer weather last week - hence the proper summer outfits! (Can't believe that I'm writing this on a day when I've been wearing opaques again - last week might have been all the summer we got...)

Feels like summer! This dress is at least 6 years old (handy how little M's birth provides a point of reference) and I dig it out every year - though every year I then ponder on which necklace to wear with it and end up with none because I think it just doesn't go...
Dress: Primark
Shoes: Zara

Nothing particularly wrong with this outfit. But nothing great either. Meh. The top half needs something more punchy to stand a chance against the skirt...
T-shirt: Warehouse
Skirt and cardigan: Boden
Necklace: Stella & Dot
Trainers: Converse
Did you enjoy the summer weather yesterday? No tights! T-shirt! Pop of colour! I certainly did! Shame that you have to wrap up when going into an air conditioned office but the sunshine cheered me up enormously!
T-shirt: & Other Stories
Skirt: Zara
Shoes: Kurt Geiger
Necklace: Aarikka

It'll be hot, they said. It'll feel like summer, they said. Better put on something light, I thought. Out comes the dress that I can't wear with tights. Shame the office was air conditioned so much, we were all freezing...

Pretty Pastel Purse

Maybe you saw me unboxing a this Mulberry purse last week alongside a Small Bayswater Satchel and a bracelet and fancied having a closer look?

Not just a lovely colour but lots of space inside - check it out!

Slow Start to Summer

Can you believe it's the summer solstice today?! This year just has been flying by! And besides that, it feels like summer is only just starting.
Last week we had a couple of days, which I would actually describe as t-shirt weather! Let's see how long it lasts...

Boden floral print skirt, Mulberry Bayswater
It felt like summer yesterday. Time for a proper summer outfit with some florals. And a zesty bag! I am also still trying to decide which one(s) is going to go, so am determined to test drive loads of them and make a decision!
Top: & Other Stories
Skirt: Boden
Shoes: Zara
Necklace: Topshop
Bag: Mulberry

Boden print pencil skirt, grey mark t-shirt, Stella and Dot necklace
It was warmer than I expected it to be yesterday. This outfit always cheers me up because I love greens and blues together! :)
T-shirt: Topshop
Skirt: Boden
Trainers: Converse
Necklace: Stella & Dot

Green jumper and full skirt
It still felt like jumper weather yesterday - and opaques. So I added a bit of colour!
Jumper & boots: Zara
Skirt: Rumour London at Wolf & Badger
Necklace: Oliver Bonas

Zara midi skirt and denim shirt
I was running so late yesterday morning, that I didn't even have time to add a necklace to this outfit (which is becoming a bit of a staple combo).
I didn't want to cheat in the evening when I took the pic and just add one...

My Mulberry Collection - June 2017 Snapshot

So I was having a bit of a tidy and also thinking about how many bags I have - and how many I actually need. I'm trying to decide which ones to move on and am finding it way harder than it should be. Their bags for goodness sake! This is not Sophie's Choice!

Anyway, I will hopefully be able to decide soon and the collection won't look like it does right now for much longer
- so I thought I'd give a quick peek!

Which one is your favourite? And what will I let go???

Transitional Spring Dresses

Last week felt rather autumnal and I quickly moved from sheer tights into opaques. Less separates than usual with 3 dresses in there and a bit of a mixed bag. My favourite is definitely that green Mango dress - though my clumsiness does not always work with the fluted sleeves...

Mango dress with fluted sleeves
Channeling my inner Robin Hood - or would that be Maid Marian...? (The colour of this dress is such a gorgeous green, unfortunately it's completely washed out on the detail pic.) Dress: Mango
Boots: Marks and Spencer
Necklace: Olia Jewellery

Grey marl sweater dress from Next
It doesn't feel like June, does it? Rainy and windy and chilly. A sweater dress for a bit of warmth and comfort. In June. *sigh*
Dress: Next
Boots: Marks and Spencer
Necklace: I think it's from Accessorize

Boden retro print dress
Just a hint of red ;) I've had this Boden dress for years and the silk fabric has a few creases that simply won't come out but I love the pattern and thought it's time it got an outing! Dress: Boden
Boots: Zara
Necklace: Sainsbury's

Boden Richmond pencil skirt
Where's the summer?! Ok, I'd settle for spring. But this windy and rainy weather has more of October than June?! Back in my opaques for a bit of warmth, I'm attempting to cheer this outfit from autumn into spring...

Mulberry Does Summer

I'll dive right in: this gorgeous colour 'Aqua' from Mulberry is the perfect summer hue!

I can just see this little Bayswater Satchel working with so many summer outfits - can't you?

Alas not mine, I was allowed to make quick video before packing these goodies up to go to their new home. Take a peek!

Late May in Boden

Whilst uploading last week's pictures I just realised that it was a very Boden week: a Boden piece for every day. Completely unintentionally but it just goes to show that they are often my go to outfits when I don't now what to wear.

Boden colour block dress
More colour! I normally don't do red at all and pink usually in a pastel shade but this dress makes them both work for me. Added bonus: the cleverly placed coloured panels define me almost non-existing waist!
Dress: Boden
Necklace: Accessorize
Shoes: Kurt Geiger

Boden Richmond skirt with pastel top
Sunny days always make me want to wear colour, especially pretty pastel ones. :)
T-shirt: Warehouse
Cardigan & skirt: Boden
Shoes: Zara
Necklace: Freedom at Topshop

Boden sequin dress
Don't think the picture does this dress any justice but here we go... Haven't worn this dress in a about a year - maybe a bit sparkly for the office but who cares?!
Dress: Boden
Trainers: Converse

Boden print skirt with stripy top
I didn't feel like posting any outfits last week, think I have a couple still somewhere on my phone, so I will catch up with them first. I reverted to something tried and tested when it got warm: mixing stripes with this Boden pattern.

Flying visit at Cheshire Oaks

Today might have been my most productive and, at the same time, unproductive visit at Cheshire Oaks. Productive because I picked up some goodies for other people and walked out with three (!) massive bags (oh, and a "little" something fore me). Unproductive because the whole process of sorting out the lovely ladies with their goodies didn't leave me much time for pictures - nevermind prices.

To top it off, I popped back in to answer a couple of price questions and little M (who had been so patient and good) promptly banged his head on the corner of a glass shelf. Queue tears and screams - and lots of guilty Mama cuddles! His head is fine, by the way. And we both discovered "Build a Bear".

Anyway, here it goes...
